IMM is going to develop its “Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan” under the EU support and funding.
The application made by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) to the European Union (EU for Energy Transformation): Contract of Mayors in the Western Balkans and Turkey Project within the scope of the “EUforEnergy” programme in May 2021 was concluded positively a short time ago. Project activities will last for four years in seven countries: Turkey and the Western Balkan countries, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Serbia. With the project, the EU will provide consultancy services to IMM on the development of the “Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan” (SECAP), provide technical and capacity support, and provide 3 million Euro fund support.
In accordance with the EU’s Paris Climate Agreement declaration of intent, IMM aims to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40 percent until 2030, to achieve parallel results and to take concrete steps to increase the city’s resilience against the effects of climate change.
